Spurrier gets England call-up

It’s the dream of every young athlete to progress through their chosen sport and eventually represent their country and a member of Plymouth Basketball Club has seen his dream come true.

Isaac Spurrier, who currently represents the Under 16 National League Squad, has been selected as a member of the 12-man squad to represent England Under 15’s in upcoming fixtures later this month.

On Tuesday 12th April, Isaac will be jetting off to Menorca for the Alaior Tournament after attending a three-day selection camp at the National Basketball Performance Centre in Manchester during the previous week. The camp invited the top players from across the country to compete for the final 12 spots which make up the U15 squad through a series of drills, offensive and defensive set-ups and games.

Basketball wasn’t the only thing delivered at the camp though, as players also received educational sessions from professional basketball skills trainer Gary Maitland and a lesson on body language and non-verbal communication from behavioural psychologist Chris Hallam.

As well as the Tournament in Menorca, players will be heading out to Belgrade, Serbia in May to test their mettle against some of Eastern Europe’s finest young players and Spurrier will be keen to continue his involvement on the international stage.
